LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking the disqualification and contempt of court proceedings against 17 parliamentarians, including the prime minister, Punjab chief minister, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and others for making anti-judiciary remarks.
Petitioner Amna Malik has filed this petition through advocate Azhar Siddique in the court. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, CM Shahbaz Sharif, Minister Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Daniyal Aziz, Asif Kirmani, Muhammad Safdar, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Talal Chaudhry, Maiza Hameed, Barrister Hassan Ranjha, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry , Pervaiz Rasheed, Rana Sanaullah and Nehal Hashim have been made respondents in the petition.
The petitioner took the plea that these 17 parliamentarians continuously gave anti-judicial statements before the Panama case hearing and after the release of JIT report, which clearly falls under the contempt of court. These members of the Parliament, who have been made respondents in the Panama petition, have committed a violation of Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
It was also mentioned in the petition that respective forum chairman senate and speakers of the national and provincial assemblies were also approached for disqualification of these members, but that was rejected by the speakers. Petitioner prayed to the court that it should issue orders for disqualification of 17 parliamentarians and initiate contempt of court proceedings against them.
