LAHORE: A six-member delegation of Tianjin University of Technical Education (TUTE) China visited the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) to finalise the establishment of University of Technical and Vocational Education (UTVE) in Lahore on Tuesday.
Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment Sheikh Allaudin, TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and TUTE Vice President Yan Bing were present.
While speaking on the occasion, TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that UTVE will start functioning in the current year as Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the task to start admissions in the varsity by October. The task will be completed in the given time, he told.
Irfan further stated that initially, the university will offer 6 to 9-degree programs to 2200 students including BSc Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Automobile, Information Technology, Architecture and Textile Designing. He also observed that as per the Higher Education Commission (HEC) criteria, the land for the varsity will be selected among TEVTA colleges located at Township and Raiwind Road. Once a college will be selected, it will be given university status which will be established in collaboration with TUTE, he added.
TEVTA chairman also told that the faculty for the varsity will be acquired as per the HEC’s criteria and TUTE’s master trainers will also help in setting up modern labs and syllabus.
Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Investment Sheikh Allaudin said that it was a historic day for Punjab. The university will provide an opportunity to the youth of Pakistan to get the international standard of technical and vocational education, he said. TUTE Vice President Yan Bing said that UTVE will be a great example of Pak-China Friendship.
It is worth mentioning here that the agreement for establishing UTVE was signed by TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh during the visit of Punjab CM to China last month.
