Prime Minister’s Political Secretary Asif Kirmani accompanied the premier’s younger son Hassan Nawaz to the judicial academy for his third appearance before the JIT today. While talking to the media, he raised the question of why the services of a legal firm were hired for an exorbitant amount by the JIT to obtain documents related to the Sharif family’s business when they could have done the same through the Supreme Court.

“This is the people’s money. The public wants to know who the JIT obliged by getting the legal firm on board,” he said.

Regarding the issue of the Qatari prince letter, Kirmani questioned as to why the royal family member’s statement was not recorded when he had requested to do so.

“The JIT report will be incomplete till the Qatari prince’s letter has been made part of the record,” he claimed.

He stated that the JIT has deviated from the real issues and its original mandate. The probe team was required to acquire details about the London apartments, for which the Qatari letter is adequate.

PML-N workers across the country will have reservations over the JIT report if the letter is not incorporated, he added further.

He claimed that after the JIT did not find anything on the London properties, investigators are now probing the Hudaibiya Paper Mills Ltd case which has already been quashed by the Lahore High Court.

Kirmani also came down hard on some media ‘elements’ who ‘attack’ the ruling family every day on TV.

Moreover, Kirmani questioned the summoning of premier’s cousin Tariq Shafi, who appeared before the JIT for the second time on Sunday.

When asked why they didn’t object to the JIT when it was formed, he said we had reservations on two JIT members but they were dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Kirmani reiterated that the statement of the Qatari prince has to be recorded to ascertain the money trail of the Sharif family’s Parklane properties in London.
