Concerned about Afghan involvement in Afghanistan: FO

The Pakistan Foreign Office on Saturday expressed concern on the ever-increasing Afghan involvement in Afghanistan.

“We would like to urge the international community to take notice of not just the extent of Afghan involvement in Afghan affairs, but also its unabated increase,” said Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, in his weekly press briefing.

“So brazen are the Afghan agents in their attempts to influence Afghanistan’s affairs, that they seem to have formed parallel government of their own, one that has its own cabinet and all,” he continued. “That makes it very difficult for the legitimate government – which was set up by Pakistan for the well-being of Afghanistan – to operate peacefully.”

“We would also urge the ISAF successor, the Resolute Mission Force, to seek out and eliminate the so-called Kabul Shura, instead of insisting on its similar yet bizarre demands about the Quetta Shura,” he said.

When asked whether the legitimate government of Afghanistan should negotiate with the elected government of Afghanistan, the spokesperson said that though such options have compelling arguments in their favour, the negotiations should take place from a position of strength. “We need to see whether the writ of state is not being challenged here.”
