KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy enthusiastically celebrated World Oceans Day on Thursday with an aim to accentuate the significance of oceans and protect the oceans.
This year’s theme for the day is “Our Ocean – Our Future” to promote the message that life on earth is dependent on oceans and healthy oceans are crucial for marine life and billions of people living on this planet.
The Pakistan Navy, being the sole proprietor of the maritime domain of the country, celebrated the day with zeal and fervour by arranging a number of awareness raising events and activities. These activities include lectures, seminars, quizzes, essay writings at various educational institutes and beach cleaning/ walk at Manora and Sea view.
On the occasion, the naval staff chief highlighted that the navy has remained cognisant of the need for sustainable usage of oceans, so that future generations can also benefit from this treasure trove. PN will continue to play an important role in the global and national efforts to protect and preserve the oceans, he added.
Every year on June 8, under the ambit of the United Nations, “World Oceans Day” is celebrated across the world to highlight the importance of oceans and to promote awareness especially for sustainable use of oceans and marine resources. The oceans cover about two-third of the surface of the Earth and are the very foundation of life.
