KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that he was working on a plan to establish children wards in 10 hospitals located in different localities to cater the growing needs of Karachi.
This he said after inaugurating an 80-bedded Pediatrics Emergency Ward established by Child Life Foundation [NGO] at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5, said a statement on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by Health Minister Dr Sikandar Mendhro, Senator Saeed Ghani, Secretary Health Fazal Pechuho, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput and others.
Syed Murad Ali Shah said that just after taking over as chief minister he had visited National Institute of Child health (NICH) where he was informed that 80,000 children were treated there every month.
Presently, there are two major child health facilities at the NICH and Civil Hospital and this Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5 has become the third major facility while still two more such fully equipped facilities are also required, he said.
On this, the CM Sindh was told that emergency wards could be established in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and at Nagan Chorangi government hospital which would be functioning round the clock.
He said that there is no shortage of funds for the health sector, added just he needs some dedicated and devoted doctors who serve for ailing children selflessly.
The CM Sindh also announced that 10 such children hospitals/wards would be operated on public-private partnership.
This experiment has delivered successfully and even in rural areas where doctors were not ready to serve have started working there, he said.
He visited all sections of Pediatrics Emergency ward, including ICU and lauded the setup.
Around 150,000 children are provided with a medical facility at Korangi hospital annually and now the ratio would further increase as its Child Emergency Ward has further been equipped with latest medical facilities.
He went to the store and personally witnessed the temperature in which medicines were stored there.
He checked their quality (brands) and also urged them to give required medicines to the patients.
