Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) celebrated its 95th Founders’ Day on Friday. A ceremony was held in this regard in the university, arranged by the Lahore College Associates (LCA). The event was attended by LCWU’s Vice Chancellor Dr Rukhsana Kausar and former Vice Chancellor Dr Bushra Mateen.
Vice Chancellor Dr Rukhsana Kausar said that she is striving hard to achieve Vision 2020 for the university and to make LCWU, one of the best universities in South Asia. She further added that LCWU, with the enrollment of more than 14 thousand students, is a prestigious women’s university which was established as a college on 5th May, 1922. She was of the view that LCWU is committed to promoting the contemporary and critical thoughts in some of the major challenging disciplines in the world including information technology, mass communication, environmental sciences and pharmacy; which have been strengthened with the generous assistance of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Dr Rukhsana said that her team is confident of successfully coping with the challenges it confronts in the higher education sector, especially in regards to academic excellence, financial sustainability and empowering of women graduates through unified strategic planning, stimulating academic programs, research and innovation.
Former VCs and some prominent alumni shared their memories of the days when they were students in the university.
The Lahore College became an autonomous body in 1990 and was upgraded to a university in 2002. As many as fourteen subjects were introduced in the four year degree program in the varsity after it became a university. The university reached another milestone in 2010, when the Punjab government honored it by affiliating Government Islamia College for Women Cooper Road, Government College for Women Samanabad Lahore and Government Degree College for Women Gulberg Lahore with it.
