Minister chairs cabinet committee on health

Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Kh Salman Rafique presided over a meeting of the cabinet committee on health reforms at the Civil Secretariat here on Friday.

The meeting reviewed progress on various agenda items including the appointment of chief executive officers of district health authorities in all districts, revamping of Jinnah Hospital, and funding for the procurement of medical equipment for the Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute (PKLI).

Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmed Khawaja ordered the preparation of a working paper and roadmap for establishing a central lab in Lahore should be prepared and monthly progress monitoring according to the roadmap. Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) Director General Mujahid Sherdil informed the meeting that bids from different firms for architectural design and consultancy for the revamping of Jinnah Hospital have been received and that the IDAP is evaluating the bids.

It was announced that construction work on the PKLI is being carried out on speedily and that medical equipment worth Rs4 billion would be procured for the institute for which various multinational companies have expressed their interest. Rafique directed that all processes should be completed according to the timeline so that the project would not be delayed.

Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan, Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Special Secretary Dr Sajid Chauhan, Health Department Member Dr Shabana Haider, University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellors Prof Junaid Sarfraz Khan, and Fatima Jinnah Medical University VC Prof DrSardar Fakhar Imam, the population welfare department secretary and other concerned officers of both health departments also attended the meeting.
