The 429th annual three-day urs celebrations of Hazrat Shah Hussain, commonly known as Madhu Lal Hussain, began at his shrine at Baghbanpura here on Saturday.
Every year, devotees from all over the country lay floral wreaths at the graves of Shah Hussain and Madho Lal, perform dhamal at the shrine, light candles for fulfilment of their prayers, and distribute food, water, milk, and juices. The last day of the Urs is reserved for women.
Known as Mela-e-Charaghan, the festival has its own importance in Lahore’s history, and has been the biggest festival in the city for some time.
Auqaf Department Director General Tahir Raza Bokhari inaugurated the urs celebrations by performing the traditional chador-laying ceremony at the shrine of the great Sufi saint.
PML-N City President Pervaiz Malik, MNAs, other officials of the Auqaf Department and a large number of devotees were also present on the occasion. They also prayed for the progress, development, and stability of the country.
A mehfil-e-samaa will be held in which renowned qawwals will recite Sufi poetry during the urs.
Religious and spiritual meetings will also be held and ulema mushaikh will through light on the teachings of Hazrat Madhu Lal Hussain.
The city district government and police have allegedly made foolproof security arrangements for the occasion.
