‘No to women’s heart ache’

LAHORE – Central and North Punjab Commerce and Industry (CNPWCC) Women Chamber will observe World Women Day (WWD)today as “Go-Red Dupatta” to highlight women’s health issues particularly heart problems. CNPWCC will organize three-day long programs in collaboration with Lahore Press Club, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Pakistan Cardiac Society, World Heart Federation, FPCCI and Go-Red (an international body dedicated to awareness about cardiovascular disease among women).
CNPWCC will also organize a general public awareness program at Al-Hamra Arts Council symposium and “Meet the Experts” activities at royal palm country club for ardiovascular awareness among Pakistani women and young doctors. On the first day, renowned cardiologists and women from all over the country will participate in Go-Red Dupatta walk from Lahore Press Club to Al-Hamra Arts Council. The doctors treat women with heart ailments for free besides addressing questions, during a public awareness meeting at Al-Hamra. On second day, an exhibition will be launched at Al-Hamra in collaboration with different pharmaceutical companies where heart and blood tests will be offered for free.
On the third day, the book Women Leadership” written by Pakistan Peoples Party’s leader Jahangir Badar will be launched at Governor House where one out of 12 successful women will be given “Benazir Bhutto Achievement Award” by a special jury. WCC Women Chamber President Dr Shehla Akram said in a press conference that earlier women had ignored heart disease issues. She said, “A large number of women are suffering from heart diseases, if this trend continues heart problem among women will increase by 130 per cent.”
She said every woman must get at least one complete medical check up in a year. She further mentioned the latest study according to which more than 90 per cent male patients were treated by specialists and cardiologist while 80 percent women were sent to general practitioners.
