KARACHI: As many as 748 persons were arrested in the metropolis during the current month for violation of Temporary Residents Act, says a police statement here on Friday.
It said that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, AD Khawaja, was informed in a report presented by the AIG Operations Sindh.
According to the report, the arrests were made in all the three police zones of Karachi from March 1, 2017, to-date. It was pointed out that the 748 accused were nabbed under a total of 377 cases for violation of Temporary Residents Act.
In other raids, 677 illegal immigrants were also arrested in 348 cases. The IGP Sindh while reviewing the report also issued the directives that police should step up its drive against the crimes.
He said that effective measures to be undertaken for control of law and order, patrolling and picketing must be enhanced along with random snap checking.
