KARACHI: Tributes were paid to Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Engineering Dean Professor Dr MS Makhdoomi (late) at a condolence reference held at SSUET on Wednesday.
A large number of faculty members, staff members and employees of the university offered `dua-e-maghfirat’ for the departed soul and prayed to Allah to grant fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
SSUET Chancellor Jawaid Anwar, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jawed H Rizvi, acting Dean Prof Dr Najeeb and Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali were also present on the occasion.
In a brief speech, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar recalled the services of Dr Makhdoomi as the Civil Engineering Department chairman and Engineering Faculty dean for promoting the cause of education.
He said this university has grown over the years and is recognised as an educational centre of excellence both at home and abroad and this became possible due to people like Dr Makhdoomi.
The chancellor appreciated the services of the graduates of the university, adding that this was the very objective of the university and Dr Makhdoomi too was working on this mission.
“We all in this university fully share their grief and sorrows”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Aligarh Institute of Technology Convener Engr Anwer Ali also paid rich compliments to Late Prof Dr SM Makhdoomi and said he was one of the best teachers and a wonderful human being.
He said his services will always be remembered.
Prof Dr Abdul Samad said that Dr Makhdoomi was his class fellow and they both joined NED together.
Mohammed Shafiq, a former Building Control Authority Director, said that during his days at NED studying Civil Engineering, Dr Makhdoomi was his teacher and he will always be remembered.
