Women’s university to be established in Bannu: Durrani

Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani on Thursday said that the solid measures were being taken to establish women’s university here to bring them into mainstream of national development.

Addressing at a laptop and fee reimbursement ceremony at Science and Technology University here, the federal minister said that the government was pursuing a strategy that no one would remain uneducated and in this regard, all out efforts would be made to set up a university for women of the area to gear them up for playing due role in socio-economic development of the country.

He said the government was equally according priority to all sectors especially education which played pivotal role in socio-economic development of a nation and concerned organizations were being encouraged to continue their efforts for promoting literacy in the country, he added.

He also urged the students to avoid politics and focus on their studies as they had to hold reins of the country in order to bring it at par with other developed countries of the world in terms of economic development. He said that University of Science and Technology, Bannu would be made an exemplary institution and new disciplines would be opened to prepare the students in line with market’s requirements.

He said Rs 102 million had been approved for the development of the university and efforts were being made to get some more funds as well.

He said that certain political elements were in the habit of making hollow claims as they could not deliver on their promises they made with people during electioneering.

While, he did not believe in only words, he said, rather he had always worked for welfare of people and matched words with actions, adding laying network of so many development schemes in the area was testament to this effect.

Moreover, the minister said that people had now become aware of negative politics of those political forces who were destined to meet defeat in next general elections in view of their poor performance.

The minister said southern districts were the largest oil and gas producing areas, catering to about 60 per cent of the country’s energy needs, thus, the belt should have lion’s share in development funds but to the utter dismay, it was not getting its due rights, he added.

Referring to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the minister said that it would be a game changer for Pakistan, ushering in an era of socio-economic development.

He said that the mega project also featured establishment of industrial zones at designated places all along the route besides other billions of dollars worth development schemes.

He said that industrial zones would bring economic prosperity to southern districts and generate job opportunities for people of Bannu and Lakki Marwat.

Earlier, the minister gave away cheques worth over Rs 20 million among the deserving students on account of fee reimbursement. He also inaugurated book fair as part of efforts to inculcate book reading habit among students. Among others, Vice-Chancellor Sultan Mehmood also was present on the occasion.
