KARACHI/LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Security officials on Friday closed almost all shrines in Karachi including the shrine of Sufi saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi, a day after a suicide bomb left more than 80 people dead at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s shrine in Sehwan city of Sindh.

The shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi was also targeted by two suicide bombers in Oct 2010.

Security officials have increased security countrywide at mosques, Imambargahs, and shrines.

Extra contingents of police and Rangers have been deployed at these areas and other sensitive locations in different cities.

Furthermore, special security measures have been put in place for Friday prayers at various mosques.

Meanwhile, owing to fears of terrorism, almost all shrines were closed in Karachi. Several shrines were also closed in Lahore.

Dozens of people including 20 children were killed in yesterday’s blast that also left 200 injured, triggering countrywide security crackdown.

Since Thursday, the security forces have killed around 40 terrorists in raids and search operations.
