KU bids farewell to Dr Jaffar Ahmed

KARACHI: A farewell ceremony on Tuesday was held in honour of University of Karachi’s Pakistan Study Centre former Director Prof Dr Syed Jaffar Ahmed. The ceremony was organised by the Programme on Peace, Democracy and Intercultural Harmony at the campus.

Dr Jaffar Ahmed has been a great asset to the University of Karachi and his services will be remembered forever.

These views were expressed by University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan.

“I have accepted the challenge of bringing out KU from the crisis and with the support of faculty and staff I am quite hopeful that I would be successful”, added the vice chancellor.

KU faculty of Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar lauded the services of Dr Jaffar Ahmed and said that he has always strived to fight against all societal issues and never compromised on principles and the society need more people like him.

Prof Dr Jaffar Ahmed thanked the organisers and the vice chancellor.

He said that associating with Karachi University was his biggest life changing decision adding that he refused a job offer at Cambridge University London to serve Pakistan and University of Karachi.

“Education sector of Pakistan has declined because universities are being established in every nook and corner of the country but no work is being done to improve the declining education quality of schools.

A senior faculty member Prof Dr Mutahir Ahmed said that a teacher never retires; Dr Jaffar is a role model for the young teachers. He always strived for the academic excellence and never compromised on merit.

Dr Hilal Naqvi said that more than 60 books were published by the KU Pakistan Study Centre under the directorship of Prof Jaffar Ahmed.

Another senior faculty member said that Dr Jaffar services for the education and society are exemplary.
