Punjab Road Safety Authority to begin operating from March 16

The Punjab Road Safety Authority (PRSA) will begin operating from March 16 this year in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan districts. In the first phase, this authority is mandated to provide safe and secure environments on roads by eliminating accidents and setting up prompt medical facilities for the people.

This was stated by Minister for Information and Excise and Taxation Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman while presiding over a meeting at his office on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed different proposals regarding the setting up of the PRSA.

While addressing the meeting, the minister said that this authority is another milestone achievement of the Punjab government and added that this authority would help in decreasing road accidents and in providing a safe and secure traffic system.

The government of Punjab has introduced far reaching reforms in the province and it is hoped that the establishment of this authority will further benefit the people, he added. The minister said that the authority will be established in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad in the first phase and then it will be extended to other districts as well.

He further said that this authority will design and develop different strategies to safeguard the lives of passengers and drivers, who will be trained in traffic rules and safety standards. The meeting was told that the authority act authority will be presented in the Punjab Assembly for approval, following which the authority will formally start its work.

Transport Secretary Javed Akbar, additional IG traffic police, DG Rescue 1122, excise and taxation additional secretary, and other officials attended the meeting.
