Sindh Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Innam Memon on Wednesday said the ongoing operation against unauthorised commercial structures, across the province, was not in any way against a particular group.

Responding to queries raised by local journalists about demolition of numerous marriage halls in the metropolis, he also reemphasized that the operation was not being done under any pressure.

“Let me make it clear that the provincial government was not being pressurised by anyone,” he said.

Memon said no one was dictating them for the operation and the marriage halls demolished in different parts of Karachi were those which had been built on amenity plots. “Most of these were meant for educational institutions or health centres and while trimming the size of these facilities vacant land were turned into marriage halls,” said the minister for local government.

He reiterated that the operation would continue till all the encroachments were erased for good from across the province including its capital Karachi.

In reply to a question, he said the provincial government was also contemplating to approach higher courts and register its appeals against decisions by subordinate courts with regard to issuance of stay orders against removal of encroachments and demolition of illegal structures, including wedding halls.

Sharjeel Innam Memon responding to query about ghost employees in KMC said a list comprising more than 1000 ghost employees has been prepared and needed action would soon be taken against culprits.
