A Pakistan Army soldier succumbed to his wounds on Monday after being critically injured in firing in Khyber Agency.
The military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said, “Sepoy Waqas was performing his duties at the border post when terrorists opened fire. The soldier succumbed to his injuries at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar.”
The statement further said that “terrorists are resorting to firing from across the border taking advantage of weak border control on the Afghanistan side”. There is a requirement to check terrorists’ freedom of movement on the Afghan side of the border, ISPR urged.
Army Chief General Qamar Jawed Bajwa acknowledged Sepoy Waqas’s “sacrifice for the security of our motherland.”
Funeral prayers of the slain soldier were offered at Corps Headquarters Peshawar. Corps Commander Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt, IGFC Maj Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood, chief secretary K-P and a large number of officers and soldiers attended his funeral prayers.
