Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated the upgradation, widening and strengthening of 448 kilometre-long Sorab-Hoshab road (N-85), an important part of
the western corridor of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Frontier Works Organisation Director General were also present.
The road will link Gwadar Port with National Highway network (N-25) near Sorab/Quetta.
The project contractor – Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) – has completed 16 bridges and 1,502 culverts at N-85, with a cost of Rs 22,028 million approximately.
The road will provide the shortest link from Gwadar Port to Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries. With the completion of this project, the vital North-South road connectivity has also been completed.
