Chairmen and vice chairmen from local bodies of capital will participate in orientation training workshop titled ‘ICT Local Government and by-laws’ to be held from 13th December to 15th December at Pak China Friendship Centre.
On directions of Mayor Islamabad and acting-Chairman CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz and Member Administration Salman Warraich the training will be conducted by CDA Training Academy to orientate elective representatives on topics of local government responsibility, relevant by-laws and their implementation, finance, municipality, and town planning.
Islamabad elected its first ever local bodies last year and it took more than 8 months for powers to be transferred to elected representatives. Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad was formed as capital’s foremost civic agency to comprise entirely of elected representatives of people.
The idea of training workshop emerged when chairmen and vice chairmen complained of the issues they faced in previous Metropolitan Corporation meetings. Representatives, from both treasury and opposition benches, complained of government officials not paying heed to their directions, lack of funds for work in their areas and other issues. Opposition parties even staged walkouts from the meetings.
In light of above, it was noted that many chairmen and vice chairmen were unaware about the working of local bodies system and it was deemed fit that CDA Training Academy would conduct an orientation workshop for the representatives.
