> CDA officers hostel previously charged Non-CDA officers 190 rupees per day, now after revision they’ll pay 2,200 rupees

> 7.5 million rupees are spent on CDA Officers hostels each year on services and upkeep

In an unexpected decision, the CDA Board has increased the rent from 190 rupees to 2,200 rupees per day –more than ten-fold- for Non-CDA officers who rent rooms in its hostel in sector G-5/2.

According to documents available with Pakistan Today, from 1998 till 2012, Rs. 268 a day used to be charged from CDA officers while the rent of a room for a Non-CDA officer was 190 rupees. Later on, during the year 2012, rents remained the same for Non-CDA officers while CDA officers of BS-17 and above had to pay 755 rupees for a single day.

In a recently held CDA Board meeting, a summary from the Financial Wing said rates for the Officer’s Hostel were ‘considerably lower’ and ‘quite inadequate’ and requested to ‘enhance/rationalise’ the rates. According to the summary, the total expenditure on running and maintenance of CDA Officers Hostel worked out to 1064 rupees per day per room. In light of this, it proposed that the actual cost rent be maintained at Rs. 1,100 per day to manage inflation in the future.

In complete contrast to the past practice, rent per day for Non-CDA officers has been doubled. As in the future, they’ll be charged 2,200 per day.

Total annual expenditure of CDA Officers Hostel including utility, wages and allowances of staff comes around 7,635,000 rupees. During the past 3 years, 5 million rupees were allocated and spent on maintenance oriented work in its 33 rooms.
