NOT SAFE: Over 18,000 schools in Punjab without proper boundary walls, guards

In the wake of recent security threat following the Quetta attack, over 18,339 primary schools in Punjab are functioning without proper boundary walls or security guards, it has been learnt.

There are over 51,602 schools operating all over Punjab and approximately 5,121,200 students are enrolled in them. Apart from the students, there are around 145,201 teachers in these schools as well.

 

Apart from proper security, these schools also lack basic necessities. Around 13,700 schools do not have clean drinking water for the students and the staff while around 22,206 schools do not have washrooms. Most of the schools do not have a proper science laboratory as well.

 

Pakistan Teachers Union Punjab Chapter members Farman Ali Abbassi,  Sajjad Akbar and Rana Liaquat said the Punjab government had closed around 3,000 schools but was still unable to cater to the needs of all the schools.

  1. The security of schools should be ensured. The environment is not safe at all for the kids. How much is too much ? The Government instead of indulging in big projects should concentrate on these matters which directly affect our future.
