Effective measures afoot to ensure safe journey on highways

National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) is taking effective measures to regulate traffic, ensure safety and provide assistance to road users.

“Road safety is always given first and utmost priority. All violations are checked with zeal and zest, especially the violations which endanger the lives and property of commuters,” says an official source.

As part of efforts to ensure safety, the official said 138 speed checking cameras had been provided to all zones of NH&MP and over speeding was being checked with modern gadgets and cameras on day and night basis.

He said as many as 312,530 tickets had been issued to the violators of over speeding in year 2015 whereas 283,120 tickets were been issued to the violators from January to June 2016.

He added speed checking was being carried out by patrolling officers and speed checking squads with help of day and night speed checking cameras.

He said the locations of speed checking cameras were being changed at regular intervals, adding as far as overtaking of vehicles is concerned, it was worth mentioning that Motorway consists of three lanes.

He said most of the slow moving vehicles such as Mehran, FX cars, carry vans etc were travelling with a speed of 70-80 Km-h, adding such vehicles were creating obstruction and hindrance while using the second lane particularly when one slow moving vehicle was overtaken in the third lane by another slow moving vehicle.

In this regard, the official said NH&MP enforce law against those slow moving vehicles, who caused obstruction, adding 3,47,242 tickets had been issued to the violators of obstruction traffic in year 2015 whereas 2,63,646 tickets were issued to the violators from January to June 2016.

He said strict enforcement was being made against wrong overtaking and lane violation, in this regard 1,085,767 tickets were issued to the violator during the year 2015 whereas 5,84,444 tickets have been issued to the violators from January to June, 2016.

Besides all possible measures including road safety awareness campaigns, seminars, walks and distribution of printed briefing material have been taken, he added.

He said observers had also been deployed on Motorway to create road safety, deterrence and control on violations and to ensure the safety of the public.
