- Had there been any surgical strike, Pakistan would have retaliated
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit dismissed Indian claims of a ‘surgical strike’ across the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, claiming that Islamabad would have ‘immediately retaliated’ if that had been the case.
“As far as the government of Pakistan is concerned, there was no surgical strike whatsoever, otherwise they would have responded immediately,” he said.
When ‘video evidence’ of the strike was brought up during the interview, Basit rubbished the claim. “There can’t be any video… Because the surgical strike did not take place.”
“No surgical strike across the LoC was conducted in the dark hours of Sept 29,” he reiterated.
“There was only cross-border firing by Indian troops (on September 29), in which two Pakistan army soldiers were murdered. Pakistan responded to it immediately and proportionately,” Basit said in an interview.
India’s claim that it has conclusive video evidence of the surgical strikes seems ‘fabricated’, the diplomat said, adding that the sting operation conducted by one of India’s television channels showed a police superintendent at Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, confirming the cross-border action by Indian Special Forces, over the telephone, Times of India reported.
“Had there been any surgical strike, Pakistan would have retaliated immediately…we did not need any reaction time. It seems to me the term surgical strike is being used very loosely in India… no Indian soldiers crossed the LoC… there was only cross-border firing,” he said.
Delving into the ongoing Kashmir issue, Basit said he “did not see desire” on India’s part to engage with Pakistan on the ‘core issue’ of Kashmir. “By blaming Pakistan or calling it a terrorist state (after the terror attack on the Indian Army’s Uri camp), you are closing all doors for cooperation,” he said.
The high commissioner termed postponement of the Saarc summit a “collective loss” for all countries involved. “We are confident that Pakistan will host the 19th summit ─ if not this year, then sometime next year,” Basit said.
Pakistan's Baloch regiment is quite infamous in India regarding surgical strike operations because of their deadly skills of getting deep into enemy's territory and cutting off the heads. Yet, Pakistan has never been doing chest thumping for such operation. It's because surgical strike involves border crossing and no country would admit that its forces have did such actions. With screaming of India, it is pretty evident that they have only cooked up a story to give their people a false pride.
