US not considering to impose sanctions on Pakistan: State Dept

The US State Department Spokesperson, Mark Toner has said that Pakistan has taken effective measures to eradicate terrorism on the Afghan side of the border.

In a statement on Wednesday, Toner said that the United States is not considering to impose sanctions on Pakistan. “US will continue to work with Pakistan against terrorism,” he said.

“We have clarified our reservations that we want Pakistan to act against all terrorist networks,” Toner stated.

He added that that Pakistan has assured that it will take action against terrorist groups operating from its territory.

“US wishes to see the region peaceful,” the state department spokesman said.

He added that it is the responsibility of the Afghan government to provide security to its citizens.

The state department spokesperson went on to say that it is in the interest of both Pakistan and Afghanistan to take action against terrorists.
