National Institute of Child Health (NICH), the largest children care public sector hospital of Sindh province, has been facing water shortage for many weeks, causing great inconvenience to the patients and staff in handling surgery cases.

An official at the healthcare told PPI that NICH is a 500-bed hospital and one of the largest and the only children hospital of the province of Sindh. He said it provides tertiary care services for almost all types of pediatric diseases, but unfortunately, the hospital is facing water shortage since several weeks.

He informed that supply of water to the healthcare institution from Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is low as compared to the demand therefore, indoor-patients and staff of health facility have been facing immense hardship. He said poor water supply in evening hours had also badly affected the hospital’s cleanliness and sanitation work.  He said water shortage was prevalent since last several weeks.

He said the administration had compelled to get water tankers facility from tankers service to overcome the water shortage in the hospital.  He said KWSB supply water to the institution twice a day, but unfortunately, the hospital was receiving less water in evening hours.

NICH Deputy Director Arshad Domki, while talking to PPI, said supply of water to healthcare was low as compared to the demand, so the administration was availing water tankers facility to run the affairs of the hospital smoothly.
