The National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW) would establish first shelter home for elderly persons in federal capital soon with an accommodation capacity of 40 persons.

NCSW Chairperson Dr Nadeem Shafiq Malik said that they would establish the old age home both for male and female inmates with the collaboration of a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) Nijjat Trust which is already running two shelter homes in Rawalpindi.

It is unfortunate that such practices are emerging in our society as it is against our traditions, he said, adding that they have taken the decision after receiving number of complaints from such people.

Homeless elderly people cannot fulfill their needs themselves and are facing many problems, including major issue of survival without shelter, Malik added.

The chairperson informed that the council will provide accommodation and bear the utility expenses while the rest of the facilities would be ensured by their partner NGO. He stated that they have started working on the project which will be functional soon after completing all the formalities.
