Five killed in celebratory gunfire on Independence Day

Five people were killed while over 41 others were injured from aerial firing on Independence Day in Multan, Karachi Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Sunday.

According to reports, a man committed suicide after killing two people, including a child, during a ceremony held in connection with Independence Day in Multan. Police said Nadeem opened fire during a cake cutting ceremony organized to mark the Independence Day in Malook locality of Multan. A child named Irfan and another person Saleem Rajab Awan were critically injured. They were both rushed to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. Later the culprit committed suicide by shooting himself with the same weapon.

In Karachi, two persons were killed while 11 others, including three women, were injured from aerial firings when various areas of Karachi, including MA Jinnah Road, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Arts Council, Clifton, Malir, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal echoed with firecrackers as soon as the clock struck 12 at midnight. The incidences of aerial firings took place in Korangi, Sharfabad, Old Sabzi Mandi, and Gulistan-e-Johar. The injured people were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Meanwhile, over 30 people, including women and children, were injured from aerial firing in various areas of Rawalpindi. Many people were also injured from aerial firings in Islamabad.
