Major hospitals to be on high alert in case of any untoward incident

Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) has planned arrangements to ensure a peaceful flag hoisting ceremony on 14 August at Convention Center, Islamabad. This year denizens of Islamabad won’t be witnessing a military parade and the flag hoisting ceremony will be out of bounds to the general public. In order to make sure of the security of the venue and safety of VIPs, the entrance is only allowed to those who have security passes or invitation cards.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic Hospital and CDA Hospital will be on a high alert from 12 August to 14 August. Furthermore, all madrassahs that come within the radius of 2km of Convention Center have also been told to vacate their premises from 12 to 14 August and send their students elsewhere.

Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has been ordered to supply uninterrupted electricity during the ceremony and provision of generators in case of any untoward incident. A team of doctors, paramedical staff, a fleet of ambulances and half a dozen fire brigade vehicles will be present during the ceremony.  Furthermore, the street lights in and around the convention centre will be repaired and the flora near the venue will be pruned.

Although the law and order situation has improved recently, the authorities concerned are hell-bent to leave nothing to chance. The overall security of the capital will also be heightened during days leading to 14 August. The traffic police have been specially ordered to keep an eye on one-wheeling and exhibitionist behaviour on roads.

“We will not spare anyone who indulges in one-wheeling or other such activities. We’ll show zero-tolerance to those who misbehave or threaten other people. I advise all young lads to remain in their senses or else they’ll face consequences. Enjoy the celebrations and let others enjoy too,” said a traffic warden when asked about preparations for the big day.

The officials at ICTA have also coordinated with all concerned departments, ranging from Capital Administration Authority, all major hospitals, Pakistan Television Network, FDE, IESCO and law enforcement agencies.
