The metro bus system of the twin cities worth billions of rupees lacks proper drainage system as water accumulated in different parts of the metro bus track in the recent monsoon showers.

After 2015 monsoon, it was developed that the drainage system has defects at many points leading to leakage and dripping of rain water on traffic and passersby under the metro tracks, creating inconvenience for general public. Last year, the heavy rains flooded many bus stations and the authorities claimed that they will sort out this issue permanently but it still lacks attention.

The drainage system of this mega project demands proper design, implementation and maintenance while the carpet track can also be affected due to the lack of appropriate drainage system.

A motorbike rider Hassan Afzal while talking to Pakistan Today said, “The authorities need to get rid of the drainage issues as soon as possible and hopefully next year in monsoon, we would not face the same problem.”

A person at Muree Road, Ahmad Ali said, “This project fulfils the need of many people so the authorities need to take care of this project with the same enthusiasm they built it with.”

Civil Engineer Aziz Khan said, “Poor drainage system reduces the age of track. The metro project was completed in a short time and may be because of that, it does not possess good finishing which can be done with minimal amount.”

Hafiz Ali said, “The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has spent a good amount to make this metro project possible and I think they will look into this matter seriously.”

Pakistan Today tried to contact Punjab Metrobus Authority but they were not available.
