The construction of a gate at the Pak-Afghan border has been completed.
The gate named Bab-e-Pakistan has two doors which will be used for entrance and exit to and from Pakistan.
Officials in Khyber tribal region formal inauguration is likely to be held on August 8. The opening of “Bab-e-Pakistan” was previously scheduled on August 1 but was postponed.
Security checkpoints have been established at both ends of the gate. The gate will prevent the unchecked movement of people across the border, security forces said.
Construction on the gate began on June 12 this year sparkling border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Afghan and Pakistani forces were involved in an exchange of fire in June after Afghanistan raised objections on the construction of the gate that caused casualties on both sides.
Pakistani officials insisted that it was constructed on Pakistani territory and was aimed at curbing illegal cross-border movement.
Officials claim that this gate will prove beneficial for peace not just in Pakistan but also Afghanistan.
Several days of unprovoked firing by Afghan forces injured many and killed a Pakistan Army major.
The border tensions resulted in a curfew in the region and affected trade related activities.
