The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the Jail inspector general (IG) and Sukkur Central Jail and Malir District Jail superintendents to inform about the whereabouts of Muhammad Muawia who was under trial in Justice Maqbool Baqar’s attack case and went missing from the Sukkur Jail.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s activist Muawia was arrested along with other suspects and was under trial in a case pertaining to the attack on former SHC judge Justice Baqar’s convoy in June 2013.

The brother of missing suspect approached the SHC, submitting that he visited Sukkur Jail to meet his brother on which he was told that Muawia had been transferred to a prison in Karachi. When he approached Karachi’s Malir District Jail, the prison authorities told him that they did not know where Muawia was, he added.

Impleading Jail IG and superintendents of Sukkur Central Jail and Malir District Jail as the respondents, the petitioner pleaded the SHC to direct them to inform about his brother’s whereabouts.

The SHC division bench issued notices to the respondents directing them to file their respective comments by August 18.

Justice Baqar’s convoy was attacked near SHC on June 30, 2013 in which at least 9 people were killed and 15 sustained injuries.
