Turkish ambassador to Pakistan Sadik Babür Girgin called on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and discussed various issues of mutual interests, including the future of the Pak-Turk schools.

The meeting is of great importance because it took place at a time when the Turk government is constantly building pressure on Pakistan to close 23 Pak-Turk international schools and colleges from the current owners, jeopardising the future of over 11,000 students and 1,500 teachers.

Few days ago, the Turkish ambassador, while talking to journalists in Islamabad, demanded Pakistan to close down all the institutions in Pakistan which are backed by Fethullah Gülen-inspired Hizmet movement.

Imran Khan was the only leader who denounced the expected closure of Pak-Turk schools and said that the closure of Pak-Turk schools in Pakistan would be disastrous for the country.

Sources privy to the detail of the meeting told Pakistan Today that PTI chairman said that Pakistan gave a great value to the bilateral and brotherly relations with Turkey.

They said that Khan told the ambassador that people of Pakistan have a great respect for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his active and unequivocal stance on the issues facing the Muslims across the world.

About the issue of closing Pak-Turk Schools, Khan said that Pakistan would respect the Turk government’s decision; however, he suggested an amicable solution of the issue so as to protect the future of the students as well as of the teachers.

According to the press statement released from PTI Central Media Department, during the meeting they discussed the issues of mutual importance threadbare.

Khan commended the Turk people for their trust on political leadership and love for democracy, which they demonstrated recently.

He said that democracy can strengthen the country with the support and backing of the people.

“Turkey is a role model for the rulers in Pakistan as well as for the whole Muslim world,” added Khan.

Talking about the prevailing internal situation in Turkey, PTI chairman hoped that the current situation in Turkey would not have any negative impact on Pakistan.
