All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) Chairman Atiq Mir on Friday issued an ultimatum to the Sindh government demanding an immediate extension of Rangers special policing powers in the city.

“All Karachi traders will stage protest sit-in before the Chief Minister House, if duration of Rangers policing powers are not extended within 72 hours, and they will demand deployment of Pakistan Army rather than powerless Rangers,” he said, while addressing a protest rally in front of Karachi Press Club.

He said after a long time peace was restored in the city. Traders had got rid of extortionist and people could shop without any fear in the markets which was a cause of relief for the traders as well, he added.

Mir warned the Sindh government to refrain from taking any untoward decision against better law and order situation and not to try to reopen way of target killers, kidnappers and extortionists in the metropolis. It is pertinent here to mention that the AKTI had also announced to besiege the Sindh Assembly last December when the Sindh government was delaying the extension of Rangers powers.
