Two KU employees among several arrested in search operations

The police arrested two employees of the Karachi University from Gulberg Town on Monday.

The employees, identified as Zeeshan and Rehan, were involved in the murder of Inspector Taufeeq Zahid, police said and added that they were workers of a political party.

Zahid was gunned down inside the Muhammadi Mosque in Karachi’s Federal B Area on April 23, 2004 when he was there to offer Friday prayer. An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) handed over the two political workers to the police on physical remand till July 22.

The police and Rangers conducted search operations in different areas of Lyari and apprehended dozens of wanted suspects.

After door-to-door search and raid on the hideouts of terrorists, the Rangers apprehended seven suspects of Lyari Gang Baba Ladla group who were shifted to an unknown place for investigation. Explosives have also been recovered from their possession.

The police arrested a suspect Muhammad Pervaiz involved in different street crimes in Nazimabad police jurisdiction and recovered weapons from him.

Sources said that the police sealed entry and exit points  of Singo Lane, Photo Lane, Mossa Lane, Mirza Adam Khan Road, Chakiwara, Cheel Chok li and other markets during search operations and no one was allowed to go inside or outside these areas.

During a raid at Orangi Town, the police arrested Muhammad Sarfaraz, an alleged member of a banned terrorist group.

The accused confessed the killing of eight police officers and had also opened fire at a DSNG van of a private news channel, police said.
