Rescuers gear up for possible flood in Punjab

In the backdrop of the possible flood-like situation in the Punjab province during the monsoon season, the resue services have been alerted.

At least 7,480 rescue officials have been deployed in all districts of the province and were provided necessary equipment in order to deal with the possible emergency situation.

Punjab Director General (DG) Emergency Service Brigadier (retd.) Arshad Zia held an emergency preparedness meeting at the Rescue Academy, stated that contacts were established with the Meteorological department in order to effectively deal with possible flash floods.

Zia said that personnel belonging to the rescue service were given mock exercises at Jhelum River and other sensitive areas likely to be affected by flooding, in order to cater situation arising as a result of flooding in a better manner.

Punjab DG Emergency Service stated emergency vehicles would be deputed at all major Eid congregations and sensitive areas along with trained emergency staff to provide immediate pre-hospital emergency services.

Emergency Officers including trained doctors would supervise the arrangements during the Eid holidays. Rescuers have been assigned special duties to provide emergency medical, rescue and fire fighting services during Eid holidays.

In Lahore, Rescue 1122 staff would perform special duties in the district control room and emergency rescue stations.

Special mobile posts would also be established for providing medical treatment at public gatherings.
