The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday suggested holding general elections in 2018 in various stages, but the proposal was immediately rejected by the reforms committee.
According to sources, the ECP presented suggestions to the reforms committee that general elections should be held in different phases to overcome administrative problems as was done in the case of local government elections.
The ECP further suggested that the national and provincial elections should be held separately or that the provincial elections could be divided into different stages.
The reforms committee rejected the ECP’s proposal saying that the results of one phase could affect the next phase. The general elections will be held in a single day, the committee said.
