The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence on Monday discussed the National Command Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (Ordinance No I of 2016) in detail and recommended its passage.
During the meeting chaired by MNA Shaikh Rohale Asghar, the committee also considered the report of its sub-committee regarding the issue of land earmarked for establishment of a military cantonment in Swat and adopted it with certain amendments.
The NA body was also briefed on the arrest of an Indian spy in Balochistan and current tension at the Torkham crossing on Pak-Afghan border. It was informed that the construction work on the gate at Torkham had been restored and it would be completed very soon.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Tahir Bashir Cheema, Isphanyar M Bhandara, Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan, Mir Dostain Domki, Ghulam Rasul Sahi, Nawab Ali Wassan, Shireen Mazari, Shafqat Mahmood, Sanjay Perwani, Kishwer Zehra and Mahmood Khan Achakzai and officials of the Defence Ministry.
