Swabi-Jehangira Road blocked as locals protest against power outages

Enraged locals on Wednesday shut Swabi-Jehangira Road for all kinds of traffic as part of protest against long durations of power outages during the holy month of Ramzan.

Police resorted to baton-charge and aerial firing to disperse the protesters, however, retaliation by the locals injured Assistant Commissioner Samiullah of Chota Lahore area.

According to the locals, they are facing 15-hour long power outages on a daily basis, while whatever voltage the area is being supplied is insufficient.

Protesters have warned the administration of continuing the protest until they are relieved of the suffering.

Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) stated that increased shortfall is leading to long hours of power outages.

It should be mentioned here that Minister of state for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali had asserted that there would be no load-shedding during Iftar and Sehri timings during Ramzan, while overall supply would be bettered as well.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif issued directives from London to ensure electricity supply during Ramzan.
