All Karachi Water Tankers Ittehad President Mohammad Tariq Sadozai said on Thursday that the actual mafia behind the water shortage in the city was water hydrants and contractors but not the tanker owners.
He said this while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
Sadozai demanded to immediately end the contractor system which was controlling water hydrants in the metropolis. Sadozai said that police had lodged fake FIRs under anti-terrorism act against their 30 people during the last protest demonstration at Shahrah-e-Faisal. They include drivers and conductors as well.
The association’s spokesmen, Zahid Khan, and Munsif Jan Advocate were also present on the occasion.
They demanded of the chief minister and IGP to restore the numbering systems on all hydrants. A meter system should be installed at all government hydrants, while the contractor system should be eliminated, he proposed. They also appealed to release their truck drivers and conductors who were jailed after the protest.
