The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday said it would raise the issue of illegal appointments in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the parliament.

According to a statement issued by the party’s media cell, PPP Senator Saeed Ghani said the bureau was busy in accumulating powers outside its domain, adding that its claims of combating corruption were false.

He said that NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry had appointed over half a dozen director generals in NAB. After criticism on their appointment they were removed through a letter, he added.

However, Ghani said, they were all made officers on special duty through another letter approved by the NAB chairman. He said that the PPP would take up this matter of illegal appointments in parliament.

He said NAB had not refuted any of the allegations levelled against it by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif which force one to think that all allegations were correct. If NAB is busy in irregularities in Punjab then how it can perform correctly in Sindh, he added.
