Punjab govt to take action against two-stroke vehicles: minister

Provincial Minister for Environmental Protection Zakia Shahnawz said that legal action will be taken in big cities of Punjab against two-stroke motorcyclists and rickshaws and that no-go areas will be extended for such motorcycles and rickshaws.

She said that special campaign will be arranged within two weeks in coordination with transport, environmental protection and police department to halt excessive noise pollution and smoke emitted by such vehicles, so that masses can be made aware of the danger of air pollution.

The minister expressed these views while presiding over a meeting on the elimination of environmental pollution, to take actions against two stroke motorcycles and rickshaws and preferably the use of four stroke vehicles in all big cities including Punjab. She said that it is the need of the hour to aware the masses about the importance of elimination of noise pollution and fitness of vehicles at urgent basis.

Later, secretary environmental protection Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Chohan said that only four stroke rickshaws and motorcycles will be allowed. He said that awareness will be provided to the masses using joint campaign regarding unnecessary use of horn, misuse of motorcycles silencer and rectification of meter.

Secretary Environmental Protection Dr Iqbal Chohan, Director Naseem ur Rehman Shah, Director Toqeer Qureshi, Wasim Cheema and senior officers of Police, Transport and LTC were present in the meeting.
