All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) Chairman Atiq Mir has expressed serious concerns over heaps of garbage and overflowing gutters in market areas of the city.

In a statement, he said that plans of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) seem nonworking in Karachi. He said Karachi had become a city of garbage and liter due to inefficiency of the KMC.

He said that streets, roads and markets of Karachi had become heaps of filth. He said encroachments on roads and footpaths had blocked the smooth flow of traffic in many areas. He said the cleanliness condition of a big revenue generating city was getting worse with every passing day. Traffic issues, encroachments, sewerage, broken roads and streets, acute shortage of public transport and other issues had created a chaotic situation in the city, he added.

Mir demanded that the Sindh government should impose a municipal emergency in the city. He said that garbage and mess in city had become hazardous for citizens’ health, especially for kids. He warned that if the Sindh government did not pay heed to municipal issues of the city, they would file a complaint with international human rights organisations.
