The residents of the federal capital, especially of the posh F-6 sector, are facing an acute water shortage for the last two months and warned of launching a protest demonstration against the Capital Development Authority (CDA) if the problem was not resolved forthwith.

The residents of the sectors were of the view that irregular and inadequate water supply by the civic body badly affected the routine life of thousands of families.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Muhammad Shahid, a resident of sector F-6, complained that the issue of water shortage is not new, but it became a routine phenomenon; however the authority concerned never paid serious consideration to address the issue on a permanent basis.

He said irregular and inadequate water supply has badly disturbed their daily life amid the scorching heat.

Another resident Hasib Abbasi said the CDA complaints cell officials and employees of the civic agency at F-6 don’t discharge their duty to ensure an uninterrupted water supply. “The water supply has worsened with the start of the summer season,” he remarked.

“The CDA officials never bother to attend our phone calls whenever we want to register our complaints for water tanker, because they are often absent from their offices,” he alleged.

Residents also complained that the water tank operator is not performing his duty honestly, because he was hardly found during the time of supplying water.

They complained that the negligence of the CDA has risen to an alarming level and they never make arrangements to clean the water tanks on monthly basis and the dwellers are forced to use filthy water for their daily use.

“We cannot afford costly water tankers on daily basis, but we have left with no option, because it is next to impossible to spend a movement sans water in such a hot season,” said another resident, Riaz Shah. He said that residents pay water bills regularly to CDA, but the provision of water is not being ensured.

Mian Shahid, a resident, said that unfortunately it is not the only sector facing the water shortage issue, but residents of other sectors of the metropolitan are also facing similar problems.

He lamented that despite repeated complaints; instead of resolving their issue the officials blamed excessive load shedding and the damaged pipelines of tube-well, which are creating hurdles to smooth supply of water.

Khalid Nawaz, an employee of a local NGO, complained that with the advent of summer, the issue of water shortage surfaced, but unfortunately the CDA seemed little bothered to take concrete steps to settle the issue once and for all.

Several other middle-income sectors of federal capital are facing acute water shortage as either their supplies have been cut off or water supply is so paltry that it hardly fulfills the basic needs.

The residents urged the concerned authorities to take steps for a regular supply of water to the locality.

Talking to Pakistan Today, the CDA spokesperson Malik Saleem said that with the advent of summer the consumption of water use has increased immensely due to which somewhere in the city such problems came to surface.

He said that this year, no such problem of water shortage existed owing to the sufficient water in Simly Dam, adding that a prolonged power outage and the damaged pipelines of tube-well are the main contributor to the water shortage in the federal capital.

However, the spokesperson also demanded of the residents to cooperate with the authority and stop unnecessary usage of water.
