100 archaeological sites to be surveyed

The project for conducting the first ever archaeological survey in the federal capital has finally received a nod from the Planning Division and funds will be allocated in the next financial year.

According to an official source, the project for `Survey, Documentation and Protection of Archaeological Sites and Monuments’ in ICT amounting to Rs 14.846 million was submitted to the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage by Department of Archeology and Museums (DOAM).

The amount of Rs 7 million has been approved by the authorities, which would be allocated in the next years’ budget.

The project is aimed at finding the potential site for excavation, documentation and preservation.

The work on the project would be started soon after the allocation of funds from the concerned authority and it would help preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country.
