Cannes Film Festival, one of the biggest film fest sees dozens of stars and starlets strut down the red carpet in their designer best, setting the tone for the year to come.
In recent news, it’s the Bollywood stars that are making a name for themselves on the Cannes red carpet. Some of the few names include Aishwarya Rai, who has had a stronghold at Cannes for past 15 years (hoping for more), and now we have Sonam Kapoor, a relatively new face to the event, she’s made waves as a style star and fashionista of epic proportions.
Let’s find out whether Sonam and Aishwarya impressed this time around.
What did Aishwarya get right? The purple lips
On contrary to what the others are saying, we totally love the bold and chic lip colour. The actress wore a Rami Kadi floral embellished gown.
What we really like is the lipstick, which is … odd but impressive. Honestly, we think Aish is finally catching up on the Ichiban lip colour (Waddup Joey Reference), there will be a time when the world catches up on this trend too.
The lipstick is totally odd with her princessy gown and is a major fashion risk she took.
What did Aishwarya get wrong? The Champagne gown by Ali Younes.
Aishwarya made several past appearances in Elie Saab’s designs, for which she won several praises. However, for her 15th appearance, she opted for a studded champagne coloured gown with a cape at the premiere of “Slack Bay.”Lebanese fashion designer Ali Younes. This cape dress got us cringing. This is not red carpet material. Nope, not at all.
However, the simple hairstyle with minimum jewellery and pinkish-nude lipstick did the trick; with the over the top blue eye make-up was chic, and classy.
Let’s move on to Sonam Kapoor’s look
What did Sonam Kapoor get right? This futuristic sari
Sonam Kapoor’s Rimzim Dadu is visually stunning and endlessly fascinating in the molten wire sari. Luckily, Sonam made the right choice to keep the focus on her sari by opting for minimal hair and makeup. With this look, she proves she’s a style star for a reason.
What did Sonam get wrong? This overwhelming white gown
Sonam’s looks work best when she plays up her young, sassy side, and this gown just doesn’t do her personality justice.
The gown is by Ralph & Russo, a design house Sonam often favours. But this look is too severe for our liking.
We feel the fabric is too stiff and boxy for a summery affair like the Cannes Film Festival. And the cape? Overkill. Also, it’s oddly reminiscent of Rihanna’s iconic gold gown at last year’s Met Gala.
