Seven of a family among 10 dead in Chiniot road mishaps

At least 10 people, including seven members of a family, were killed and several others wounded in separate road mishaps here on Saturday.

Rescue sources said that the incident took place in Harsa Sheikh area, where a speeding dump truck collided with a passenger van, killing seven people belonging to the same family and leaving several others wounded. The injured were ferried to a nearby hospital.

In another accident, a speeding van killed a bike rider, namely Baqar Hussain, and left his wife Mumtaz and 11-year-old child seriously injured. The body and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Separately, five-year-old Meezan died after being hit by a recklessly-driven dump truck near Kot Yar Muhammad area. The body was taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs.

Meanwhile, driver of an auto-rickshaw died after he lost control of his vehicle due to speeding and hit the pole of a bridge over River Chenab. The body was taken to a hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the heirs.

Police have registered separate cases of all the incidents and are investigating.
