Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has never feared accountability in the past and would not fear it now.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting of legal experts and government members in the federal capital to review Terms of References (TORs) jointly prepared by opposition parties for the judicial commission that will be probing Panama leaks issue.

The Prime Minister was briefed about the TORs compiled by the opposition. He directed the legal team to review the TORs in detail.

In a meeting held earlier, the Prime Minister had decided that the government would accept Supreme Court’s verdict in Panama leaks probe. PM once again stated that the court might start accountability process with him and his family. He added that the judicial commission would prove his honesty and would expose the lies of his political opponents.

Earlier after opposition parties had finalised their joint TORs on Tuesday, PML-N’s MNA Talal Chaudhry had said that the nation rejects such Terms of References which were allegedly introduced to facilitate certain members of Imran Khan’s party.

Chaudhry said that the opposition could not omit any of the TORs forwarded by the government. He alleged the opposition parties of consensual omission of a clause regarding tax evasion and writing off debts to save some of its prominant faces.

TORs could be added but not deleted, he added.

On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah stated that the opposition would write a letter to the PM regarding the TORs. He added that the TORs prepared by the opposition parties would formally be sent to the Prime Minister through with letter.

A committee formed by opposition parties convened a meeting on Tuesday at Opposition Leader in the Senate, Aitzaz Ahsan’s residence in Islamabad.

The committee had finalised TORs over Panama leaks in the meeting. Aitzaz Ahsan, while talking to the media afterwards disclosed that opposition parties could not develop consensus over demanding PM s resignation. However, they agreed on initiating the probe with Sharif s family.

According to the TORs, Sharif family should be the first in line in probe by the Supreme Court (SC). Investigation into illegal offshore dealings by premier’s family should conclude within three months while the rest of the persons named in Panama leaks should be held accountable within a year.

  1. Some of his Durbari Minister has advised the PM to be brave and face it. The Hon PM says he and his family has faced accountability before as well. But this accountability is different and very dangerous compared to previous ones, if any. The charges of gross corruption are not indigenous, they have come from the space. The more he will fight, the more he will face disgrace.

  2. Well Mr. PM you are in a win win situation. The opposition is not calling for your resignation. If you are innocent of any wrong doing you will pass the litmus test with flying colours and will be handsomely placed to win the next election which is now around the corner. The more you dig in the more one begins to think you have something to hide. The sun will not shine on you unless the clouds of suspicion float away. Let your honesty shine.
