  • Sirajul Haq says any conspiracy to derail accountability process won’t succeed

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said that any conspiracy to derail the process of accountability would not be allowed to succeed.

Talking to media persons at Mansoora following a meeting of the party’s central Shoora, Haq clarified that accountability would not be confined to Prime Minister Sharif and his family alone but would be extended to all those whose name had appeared in the Panama Papers leaks.

He exhorted all political parties to resolve that they would not accept any corrupt person at their top, nor would they issue them any party ticket. He also announced that his party would not extend support to any plunderer or corrupt person.

Haq clarified that the JI’s campaign was against corruption and not democracy and the process of accountability would strengthen democracy. “Democracy is not like a mirror that would break with the accountability of the rulers,” he remarked.

The JI chief said that all political parties should be unanimous on the accountability process, and remarked that whoever stood apart would be helping the rulers in escaping accountability.

He said that a meeting of the opposition parties would be held in Islamabad on May 2 to decide the terms of reference (ToRs) for the enquiry commission.

The JI chief said that all efforts of the prime minister to have an enquiry commission of his choice or to escape accountability had failed and the nation had also rejected such a commission.
