Info minister is the poorest member of the House with only Rs 1.3 million and no car in his name

According to the recently published details of their assets by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), members of the Upper House of Parliament are more wealthier thatn their fellow lawmakers in the Lower House of Parliament or the National Assembly.

According to the ECP details, Senator Azam Swati of PTI has a net worth of Rs 834.2 million. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has declared assets worth Rs 680 million, all of which, he says is in Pakistan. He owns no property or business abroad. Dar also owns four cars estimated to be worth Rs 27 million. He paid tax of Rs 3.9 million and took 110 millions from his son as Qarz-e-Husna.

Former Interior Minister and Senator Rehman Malik owns assets worth 330 million here, 33 million assets abroad and a BMW car.

Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani declared his assets totalling around Rs 110 million. Another stalwart senator from PPP, Sherry Rehman has assets amounting to 54.4 million rupees.

Senator Mushahid Hussain from PML-Q included his two vehicles, cell phones, wife’s jewellery, speakers and even his 550 books as his assets total around 50 million rupees.

Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, surprisingly enough, does not own a car although his immovable assets total around 45 million rupees.

Deputy Senate Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri has turned out to be the owner of some extremely cheap real estate. He says his house in Kalat is worth Rs 0.5 million, a plot in Gwadar is worth Rs 150,000 and a 10 marla plot in Islamabad which is valued at Rs 0.5 million.

MQM Senator Faroogh Naseem owns assets worth Rs 320 million which include bank balance, properties, investments and vehicles. Another MQM Senator, Khushbakht Shujat, has assets worth Rs 32.7 million including a flat in Clifton worth Rs 0.4 million. Senator Tahir Mashahdi of MQM has assets worth Rs 45.4 million.

The scion of the wealthy Saifullah family, Senator Osman Saifullah declared assets worth Rs 275 million.

Information Minister, Pervaiz Rashid who has declared Rs 1.3 million in assets with less than Rs 100,000 in cash and no car has turned out to be the poorest senator in the House.

The details of assets owned by other senators are as follows: Kamil Ali Agha is carless, although his assets exceed more than Rs 20 million; Senator Talha Mehmood owns Rs 210 million of assets; Senator Nihal Hashmi owns three plots but has declared no car or furniture; Senator Mushahidullah Khan despite having Rs 13.9 million doesn’t possess an automobile; Najma Hamid owns an extraordinarily cheap house in Satellite town which is worth a paltry Rs 2.1 million.

Senator Babar Awan, another prominent senator has assets worth Rs 290 million.
